Role Description
The Owner's Engineer - Lead Mechanical Engineer provides Green Gravity with mechanical engineering technical authority for the development and delivery of Gravity Energy Storage Systems (GESS) projects and assets. The role translates business and operational needs into clear mechanical engineering requirements and ensures that plant and equipment are delivered safely, compliantly, and fit-for-purpose across the asset life cycle.
Acting as the mechanical package lead, you will define mechanical scopes, develop technical specifications, support procurement and contractor selection, and manage design assurance through structured reviews, calculations, verification, and validation.
You will lead engineering governance activities including Safety in Design, technical risk management, compliance with relevant standards and statutory obligations, and configuration/design control. You will coordinate internal and external engineering service providers, OEMs, and fabricators, and provide independent technical oversight through manufacture, testing (FAT/SAT), commissioning and handover.
This is an engineering role (not project management) focused on technical decision-making, engineering judgement and independent assurance
.

* Demonstrated capability preparing mechanical design basis documents, technical specifications, datasheets, and scopes of work for outsourced design, fabrication, and supply.
* Strong understanding and practical application of engineering governance, including Safety in Design, design control/configuration management, verification and validation, and technical risk management.
* Experience reviewing and accepting contractor/OEM deliverables (drawings, models, calculations, design reports, ITPs, and test procedures) for compliance with requirements and standards.
* Working knowledge of manufacturing/fabrication, quality assurance, inspection, and testing, and supporting FAT/SAT and commissioning activities.
* Ability to provide clear technical direction and challenge constructively while maintaining strong supplier/contractor relationships.

* Proficiency in Mechanical Engineering and expertise in Machine Design
* Strong skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for developing detailed designs and drawings
* Experience in Project Management to oversee complex engineering projects
* Background in Research and Development (R&D) to drive innovation in energy storage solutions
* Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a detail-oriented mindset
* Collaborative approach with strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus
* Familiarity with sustainability practices or energy storage systems is advantageous
