Production Planning Manager Job Description

The Production Planning Manager will be responsible for managing and optimising the production planning function within a make-to-order manufacturing environment. This includes developing and maintaining accurate make-to-order production schedules aligned with customer requirements, material availability, and capacity constraints.

The ideal candidate will have experience in production planning or operations in a manufacturing environment, as well as experience with Oracle ERP/MRP system. Additionally, they should have knowledge of make-to-order production and demand-driven planning processes.

Key responsibilities include:

* Developing and maintaining accurate make-to-order production schedules;
* Coordinating closely with procurement, engineering, and shop floor teams to ensure timely and efficient production execution;
* Maintaining planning data accuracy in Oracle ERP and leading initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the MRP system;
* Collaborating with the IT team to identify system gaps, define requirements, and test improvements or customizations to Oracle MRP functionality;
* Driving the introduction and optimisation of new and existing Oracle modules by working with cross-functional stakeholders to define scope, assess readiness, and support implementation efforts;
* Providing leadership and mentoring to the planning team, including setting KPIs and supporting professional development;
* Supporting continuous improvement initiatives focused on lead time reduction, efficiency gains, and process digitisation;
* Generating and analysing production reports to support decision-making and highlight key planning metrics.

Additional responsibilities include:

* Ensuring that all production planning activities are aligned with business objectives;
* Identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvement;
* Collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination;
* Staying up-to-date with industry trends and developments in production planning and Oracle ERP/MRP systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

* Proven experience in production planning or operations in a manufacturing environment;
* Experience with Oracle ERP/MRP system;
* Knowledge of make-to-order production and demand-driven planning processes;
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
* Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field.

Experience:

* Minimum 5 years of experience in production planning or operations in a manufacturing environment.

Skills:

* Oracle ERP/MRP system;
* Make-to-order production;
* Demand-driven planning processes;
* Business intelligence tools;
* Project management software;
* Microsoft Office Suite.
