Role
We're looking for a Lead Mechanical Designer to join our Buildings and Places team, based in Melbourne or Adelaide with flexible and hybrid working options available. This senior technical role involves leading complex design, applying digital‐first approaches, and collaborating closely within multidisciplinary project teams. You'll play a key role in delivering high‐quality mechanical design solutions across major building, infrastructure and precinct projects.
* Lead the planning, design and delivery of complex mechanical design solutions on mid‐size to large projects;
* Provide technical leadership and expert input, driving innovative and efficient design outcomes;
* Apply model‐first, digitally enabled design approaches aligned to Aurecon's Project Information Management standards;
* Collaborate closely with engineers, designers and advisors across multidisciplinary teams;
* Champion safe, sustainable and compliant design practices;
* Support project performance across quality, utilisation, margin and delivery;
* Mentor and guide designers and engineers, contributing to capability development and knowledge sharing;
* Contribute to continuous improvement of digital workflows and design practices;
* Support strong client outcomes and long‐term relationships.
What we're looking for
* A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline (degree, diploma or trade background considered);
* Demonstrated experience delivering mechanical design in a consulting or project‐based environment;
* Strong capability in digital design tools, BIM and model‐based workflows;
* Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary building or infrastructure projects;
* Solid understanding of safety, sustainability, compliance and design quality requirements;
* Ability to lead technical outcomes and influence others, with or without formal line management;
* Strong collaboration, communication and problem‐solving skills;
* Commercial awareness and a commitment to project and business performance.
