Ultrasound clinical tutor

As ultrasound Clinical Tutor you will be responsible for delivering and coordinating ultrasound education to ultrasound practitioners within the Trust including trainee sonographers, midwifes, nurses and medical trainees.

Along with specialised clinical ultrasound training you will also be delivering training in ultrasound governance to departments across the Trust and supporting, where necessary, to improve standards Trust wide through peer audit, QA and local assurance processes.

Alongside training and educational responsibilities, you will be responsible carrying out and reporting on specialised ultrasound examinations to a high standard and in a professional manner.

Holding a post graduate ultrasound qualification you will have excellent clinical skills, and experience.

In order to apply for this post you must be an experienced sonographer and possess PGC/D in Medical Ultrasound. Registration on the voluntary SCoR sonographer or HCPC or NMC registration is also expected.


Main duties of the job

As Ultrasound Clinical Tutor you will work closely with the Lead Sonographers, sonography team, Imaging Leadership Team and senior colleagues across the Trust. You will develop and maximise training and education within the ultrasound service with a focus on the ultrasound trainees within the Imaging Department as well as providing support to colleagues within the Trust.

You will ensure a patient focused, safe, effective and efficient service that is able to meet the current and future needs of the Trust and population it serves.

Alongside training and education, you will have a key role in Departmental, Governance and Multi-disciplinary Team meetings and contribute to patient safety and quality improvements.

You will act as an independent practitioner with full accountability for all actions, with the issuing of ultrasound reports with NMC/ HCPC registration and a minimum of Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead in the co-ordination and delivery of Ultrasound training to the following staff groups:

* Ultrasound students undertaking post graduate ultrasound training.
* Medical trainees
* Nursing and midwifery staff undertaking ultrasound training.
* Other professionally qualified health professional using ultrasound in clinical practice.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that high standards of clinical and theoretical ultrasound education are achieved, ensuring that training, assessment and ongoing clinical competency of the ultrasound practitioners is maintained.

The post holder will undertake clinical and teaching sessions in addition to clinical duties in the following areas:

* Obstetric Ultrasound scanning
* Gynaecology Ultrasound scanning
* General Medical Scasnning (abdominal and superficial Ultrasound imaging).

The Clinical Tutor will act independently, interpreting scan findings and producing written free text reports on examinations performed.

Excellent communication skills are essential due to the need to deliver highly sensitive and upsetting information to patients and relatives.

The post holder will be current in all aspects of ultrasound practice and will coordinate the Trust wide Ultrasound Governance, clinical audit and peer review programmes.

To implement, maintain and update the Imaging Department education and training strategy, associated protocols and procedures in line with service needs and data from staff appraisals and personal development plans.

To complete annual training needs analysis for the Imaging Department whilst ensuring service plans for improving patients care are achieved alongside professional development of the workforce.

The post holder will ensure that mandatory training compliance rate for the Imaging Department meets the Trust targets.

The post holder will maintain key links between the Imaging department and the associated higher education institutions.

Contributes to the strategic development of education of students, staff and services users at a local, regional and national level.

To facilitate and maintain an effective learning environment within the clinical setting to underpin educational training programmes and learning.

Evaluate the impact of educational and training interventions.

To act as a point of contact for Imaging Department staff wishing to undertake attendance at courses, conferences, events or commence post graduate study and to ensure study leave applications are processed as per the Trust Study Leave policy.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse/ Midwife or AHP
* Degree in health-related subject or equivalent
* Extensive experience at senior clinical level
* Leadership qualification or evidence of appropriate experience
* Evidence of leadership skills
* Master's degree in healthcare related subject


Experience

* Evidence of recent professional development
* Evidence of taking lead in an area of work across more than one clinical area
* Evidence of excellent managerial, leadership and organizational skills
* Evidence of ability to motivate and develop all teams of staff across the directorate
