The Legal and Commercial Officer is a part of the Strategic Procurement and Commercial Management team. They will be responsible for providing legal and commercial support to Elysium team members and supporting a wide range of legal and commercial activities impacting the organisation. This includes reviewing and helping to draft commercial contracts to ensure the company’s interests are protected, conducting legal research, reviewing tender documents and government policies, and supporting client projects where appropriate.
This position is based in either Sydney or Canberra. Our offices are located in Braddon, Canberra, and Woolloomooloo, Sydney. Elysium offers a hybrid working arrangement, with an initial requirement to work predominantly in the office for the first two months. Afterwards, remote work may be permitted depending on requirements and availability.
This role is offered as Full-time or Casual, with hours to be agreed upon. Typical working hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize various contracts, including service agreements, confidentiality agreements, teaming agreements, and licensing agreements.
2. Provide legal and commercial advice to internal stakeholders, including contract drafting and management.
3. Research and advise on legal issues related to commercial law, corporate law, employment law, intellectual property, and HR.
4. Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
5. Contribute to business development activities.
6. Assist in reviewing and developing procurement documentation, including responses to tenders.
7. Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external legal counsel, and partners.
8. Participate in policy formulation and drafting.
9. Collaborate with other departments to maximize opportunities and minimize legal risks.
10. Support external consulting projects when appropriate.
Key Selection Criteria:
* Law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent), or working towards one, with significant practical experience in advising on commercial matters.
* Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Problem-solving and proactive attitude.
* Strong research, communication, and analytical skills.
* Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
* Experience or working towards a Cert IV in Procurement and Contracting or similar qualification.
* Experience in commercial law, preferably in a corporate environment.
* Experience with Government and related commercial matters.
* Interest and knowledge in Government Policy and Public Procurement.
* Strong organisational skills.
