Oculus (Aust) Pty. Ltd. is a spatial data capture and engineering monitoring consultancy delivering bespoke spatial, acoustic and geotechnical data acquisition solutions across civil infrastructure, mining, residential and commercial projects throughout Australia. As we continue to expand our operations, we're seeking an experienced Lead Surveyor to join our growing team.
This role offers the opportunity to develop and lead the surveying discipline, mentor and grow the team, and execute Oculus' monitoring strategy across Australia. Oculus deploys a unique profit share and equity regime for all employees with highly motivated leaders positioned to benefit the most.
Job Responsibilities
As Lead Surveyor, you will be instrumental in overseeing and delivering surveying services across multiple projects. You will lead field operations, ensure technical accuracy, and maintain our reputation for excellence while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Key duties include:
* Winning projects, building business development pipelines, contributing to tender preparations and project proposals
* Leading and coordinating field survey teams across multiple project sites
* Managing project delivery from inception to completion, ensuring quality and timeline adherence
* Conducting complex surveys including cadastral, engineering, construction, and topographic surveys
* Mentoring and developing survey personnel to build team capability
* Liaising directly with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
* Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and safety protocols
* Leading Oculus' knowledge and training in surveying and monitoring technologies.
* Deploy Oculus' spatial monitoring sensor suite to the surveying industry.
Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you will have:
* Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Surveying, Spatial Science, or equivalent qualification
* Registered with the Surveyors Board Queensland (SBQ). 3 years minimum using registration.
* Minimum 7 years' experience in surveying with at least 4 years in a leadership capacity
* Comprehensive knowledge of surveying principles, practices, and relevant legislation
* Experience across multiple sectors including civil infrastructure, construction, and land development
* Proficiency with modern surveying equipment and software (Trimble, Leica, 12d, Civil 3D)
* Strong understanding of quality assurance and safety management systems
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven client management experience
* Current Driver's Licence and ability to travel to project sites as required
