This role will involve advising on compliance with energy legislation, codes, and guidelines, engaging with regulators, and supporting the business in implementing regulatory changes.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders across legal, compliance, and operational teams to ensure all retail energy activities meet statutory and regulatory requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide expert legal advice on the National Energy Retail Law, Rules, and relevant state-based regulations.Advise on compliance with the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and Essential Services Commission (ESC) requirements.Support the development and implementation of regulatory compliance frameworks and policies.Review and draft contracts, customer terms, and other retail documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and prepare impact assessments for the business.Liaise with regulators, industry bodies, and external stakeholders on regulatory matters.Key RequirementsBachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission to practise in Australia.8+ years' post-admission experience in energy law, with a strong focus on retail energy regulation.In-depth knowledge of the National Energy Retail Law and Rules, AER guidelines, and related state-based frameworks.Proven experience engaging with regulators and advising on compliance obligations.Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.Seniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeContractJob functionLegalIndustriesLegal Services, Energy Technology, and Services for Renewable Energy
