Overview
Senior Open Pit Geologist - Expat - APAC. Opportunity to contribute to the landmark Reko Diq mega project in Pakistan. Expat roster is 6/3 weeks FIFO, from any global point of hire. The Senior Open Pit Geologist is responsible for optimizing the extraction of the Ore Reserve and its delivery to the mill, as well as defining waste material for ARD purposes. Provides back-to-back cover for the Superintendent and is involved in supervision, training and development of the team, coordinating daily and monthly responsibilities with mining activities, and critical evaluation of geological, mine and metallurgical deliveries.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain collaborative internal relationships with key departments and sub-departments (MRM, Exploration, Laboratory, Engineering, Mining/Operations, Processing, Workplace, Safety, etc.).
- Design grade blocks (ore and waste) according to departmental classifications and best practice for control of dilution and loss, and ensure they are available ahead of mining.
- Monitor mining practices and markups to ensure consistency in material types, define high-risk loss and dilution, and prioritise spotter supervision.
- Monitor and assist Operations with all Ore Loss and Dilution Control activities.
- Validate and maintain material movement statistics with knowledge of production tracking systems, including closing blocks and blasts.
- Represent the Mining Department and Mine Geology in all Production meetings, including planning and processing meetings.
- Train and supervise MRM staff for ore block creation, technical sampling, ore mark-ups, spotting, dilution control activities and mine reporting.
- Participate in reconciliation processes for identification of improvement areas and conduct business improvement studies under Superintendent guidance.
- Participate in cost control initiatives, including budget and forecasting exercises.
- Provide high-quality technical support to all related RDMC Operations Departments and assist investigations into non-compliances.
- Attend to HR-related tasks for direct reports and their team members as required, including monitoring succession planning through leadership training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field required.
- Significant, current experience in a similar role at a base metals or copper/gold Open Pit operation.
- Willingness to obtain and retain a Pakistan Driving Licence and Pit Driving Permit.
- High proficiency with generic software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint).
- High proficiency with mining software (Leapfrog and Vulcan or equivalent).
- Proven ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a coordinated, agile multidisciplinary team, regardless of reporting structure.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent safety record with demonstrated safety leadership.
