Our Rare Earths deposit in Mt Weld, Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the highest-grade Rare Earths mine in the world, and the Kalgoorlie REPF is a key strategic platform for critical mineral production, blending pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes in an Australian first, mineral processing plant. We also operate the world's largest single Rare Earths processing facility in Malaysia – so you are joining a unique team As a team member you will be contributing to the sustainable supply of rare earths metals which are used in oil & gas, electric vehicles, and wind turbines.

Our Western Australian Project Management Office (PMO) supports projects from early definition and FEED through to construction, commissioning and operational optimisation across Perth, Mt Weld and Kalgoorlie.

We are seeking an experienced Lead SMP Project Engineer to support the planning and delivery of Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) works across our WA operations. This is a hands-on role, working closely with site teams and contractors to deliver safe, high-quality capital projects from early definition through to construction and commissioning. This role offers a strong mix of site-based and Perth office exposure, providing hands-on experience on capital projects within an operational processing environment. About the Role:

Reporting to the WA Engineering & Construction PMO Manager, you will lead contractor supervision and SMP execution across site and office environments. The role suits a proactive engineer who enjoys front-end project development, site delivery, and problem-solving in a complex operating environment.

Work Location & Roster:

* When on site (Kalgoorlie & Mt Weld): 8/6 roster – 48 hrs/week
* When in Perth Office: 5/2 roster – 50 hrs/week

Key Responsibilities:

* Leading SMP input during FEED and project definition, including:
*
o scope development
o constructability review
o packaging and delivery strategy
* Lead contractor supervision, performance, schedule and compliance during construction, defect resolution, completions and commissioning
* Providing technical leadership during execution across operating plant environments
* Supervising contractors and managing interfaces with Operations and Maintenance
* Interpreting design intent and resolving engineering and construction issues
* Reviewing work packs, WMS, methodologies and ITPs
* Identifying and managing risk, change, and interface challenges
* Mentoring project engineers through hands-on involvement across FEED and delivery phases
* Develop execution plans, scopes of work, delivery strategies and SMP schedules (including FEED and early project phases)
* Support procurement, material coordination and technical documentation
* Review work packs, work method statements, procedures and ITPs
* Undertake in-house design development and detailing for small-scale works where appropriate
* Build understanding of the rare earth concentrate production process and supporting systems

About You:

* Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Structural or related Engineering discipline
* Extensive experience in SMP project engineering across FEED, construction and commissioning
* Comfortable adapting between office-based project work and site engagement as delivery demands
* Strong constructability mindset and appreciation of brownfields constraints
* Able to conceptualise, check, and communicate engineering solutions using first-principles judgement and, where appropriate, sketches or appropriate design tools
* A leader who values accountability, visibility, and continuity of ownership, motivated by seeing projects move from concept through to safe, operating plant
* Strong contractor management and site execution capability
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* A methodical, organised and safety-focused approach
* Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
* Experience working on Australian construction or minerals processing sites
* Full working rights in Australia

Highly regarded:

* CPEng and/or NER registration
* Experience in minerals processing or materials handling facilities
* Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, document management and completion systems
* WA Manual Driver's Licence
