Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking a highly experienced and
strategicSenior Transport Planner to
play a leading role in shaping the Region's long-term
transport network and land use integration.
Reporting within the Transport & Drainage Planning Branch,
this permanent full-time position operates under broad direction
and is responsible for initiating, formulating and delivering
transport works programs that directly support Council's
strategic objectives and community outcomes.
About the Role
As Senior Transport Planner, you will provide expert leadership
across transport strategy, policy and planning initiatives,
ensuring the development of integrated and future-focused transport
solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
* Working collaboratively with key internal and external
stakeholders to deliver transport programs aligned with
Council's long-term transport and land use goals.
* Providing expert advice, delivering presentations and
preparing high-level reports and business cases on transport
planning initiatives.
* Leading planning initiatives across Active Transport,
Network Planning, Freight Transport and Logistics, and Public
Transport Planning.
* Guiding and mentoring graduate engineers, technical
officers and students to build capability and strengthen
technical expertise within the Branch.
* Providing specialist technical input into transport
policies, research, consultation processes, operational policy
drafting and review of engineering standards.
* Managing Council's Traffic Engineering and Modelling
platforms, including micro, mesoscopic and macroscopic
modelling systems
About You
You are an accomplished transport planning professional with
extensive experience delivering strategic transport initiatives in
a complex and evolving environment. You combine strong analytical
capability with the ability to influence stakeholders and guide
technical teams toward high-quality outcomes.
You will ideally bring:
* A Bachelor Degree in Transport Planning, Engineering or
equivalent from a recognised university, with extensive
relevant experience.
* Postgraduate qualifications in Transport Planning or
Traffic Engineering (highly regarded).
* Demonstrated expertise across Active Transport, Network
Planning, Freight and Logistics, and Public Transport
Planning.
* Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to
interpret complex data and provide clear, evidence-based
recommendations.
* Proven ability to mentor staff and positively influence
branch outcomes.
* Demonstrated experience using traffic modelling software
such as Aimsun, Emme and SIDRA.
* Sound knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines
including Austroads, IPWEAQ, TMR, QUDM and applicable
legislation relating to safety, environment and cultural
heritage.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
including experience preparing high-level reports, business
cases and delivering presentations.
