IP Guardian is a forward-thinking, independently owned IP firm helping innovators protect and grow their ideas. With team members across Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland, and Hamilton, we serve scaling businesses across Australia and New Zealand and deliver practical, transparent, and high-value IP solutions.
We're not just another firm! We're building a modern, people-first practice designed for long-term impact.
The Opportunity
We're seeking a qualified Patent Attorney with around 1–3 years' post-registration experience to join our growing team. Depending on your experience, there's real potential to step into a client-facing role, working directly with innovators and business leaders to develop IP strategies and build trusted relationships. You'll be supported by experienced principals, but with room to take ownership and grow at your own pace.
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the direction of a young, dynamic firm while developing your own profile and credibility with exciting, high-growth clients. As your experience and capability grow, so too will your autonomy, responsibility, and potential for equity involvement.
Your Role Will Include:
* Managing or assisting with your own portfolio of clients and building trusted, long-term relationships.
* Drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent and design applications in Australia, New Zealand, and abroad.
* Advising clients on IP strategy, protection, and portfolio management.
* Collaborating with the leadership team to refine processes and support firm growth.
* Contributing ideas and initiatives to improve how we deliver value.
What We Offer:
* Competitive salary reflective of experience, with optional performance-based bonuses.
* True flexibility—work remotely from anywhere, supported by robust systems and clear communication.
* Tailored career development—the role can evolve with your capability and ambition, with clear pathways toward client ownership, leadership and equity for the right person.
* Meaningful work with scaling, innovative and high-impact clients.
* A values-driven culture built on transparency, collaboration, and integrity.
* A remote-first workplace where independence, accountability, and communication are key.
About You:
* Registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand (1–3 years PQE).
* Technical background in electrical or software engineering, physics, or a related field.
* Strong communicator who enjoys building trust and credibility directly with clients and associates.
* Proactive, solutions-focused, and eager to contribute to a growing firm.
* Experienced in or confident working autonomously in a remote environment, with strong self-management and collaboration skills.
* Excited by the idea of building something lasting and innovative.
Why Join IP Guardian?
