About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Senior Family Lawyer to provide legal services across the Westernport region. Reporting to the Deputy Managing Lawyer, you will act as an advocate in intervention and family law proceedings, provide duty lawyer services for various courts serviced by the regional office, conduct complex case work and assist with continuous development projects.
This is a highly collaborative position working alongside health, legal and social service partners to reach vulnerable clients and resolve legal problems at the earliest opportunity. In addition to this, you will mentor and assist in training junior lawyers through assisting in the delivery and development of programs.
About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
4. Knowledge and advocacy experience in family law and relevant court procedures, with the technical proficiency to conduct quality case work in complex family law, family violence and child protection matters.
5. Stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to positively engage with clients and key internal and external stakeholders.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and your demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with others and fostering a supportive team environment.
7. Ability to supervise legal work and to mentor and train staff and contribute to the development of individuals and their knowledge and skills in family law.
8. A current Australian practicing certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
