Advanced Trainee in Retrieval Medicine – Lismore Base Hospital
An exciting opportunity is available at Lismore Base Hospital for an Advanced Trainee in Retrieval Medicine position starting from August 2026 for a period of six months. The successful applicant will provide high quality critical care to acutely ill and injured patients in the prehospital environment and during inter‐hospital transfers with the retrieval service. They will gain valuable experience working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians as part of Lismore Base Hospital and Westpac Helicopter Retrieval Base.
Accreditation
Lismore Base Hospital (Richmond Network) is accredited for 36 months of Trainee Stage 1-3 time, 6 months Trainee Stage 4 (Lismore ED), 6 months Trainee Stage 4 (non‐ED Retrieval) or 3 months Trainee Stage 4 non‐ED Medical Education. The department offers opportunities to rotate to ACEM‐accredited terms in Anaesthesia, ICU, Medical Education, Ultrasound and Retrieval.
Training Stage 4 (TS4)
Trainees will have opportunities to fulfil leadership roles within the department whilst receiving supervision and support from FACEMs. They will contribute to education activities within Emergency Medicine and the hospital, and will have non‐clinical time to undertake education, quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Education
Weekly paid protected education sessions are provided, covering simulation, clinical skills, case reviews, radiology and paediatrics. Structured programs are also offered for trainees preparing for ACEM primary and fellowship exams. The hospital supports external educational activities including the Alfred Health Emergency Procedures Course and the ACEM Diploma of Pre‐Hospital and Retrieval Medicine.
