Role and responsibilities
The NSW Telestroke Service (TSS) Clinical Nurse Consultant is a statewide position that provides expert clinical advice and consultancy services to TSS referring sites. This role initiates and leads practice development across NSW by collaborating with the TSS host site team, Prince of Wales Hospital Stroke Department, referring site teams and the NSW Telestroke Working Group. You will contribute to standardisation and integration of stroke care across the network and support delivery of telehealth technology from a clinical perspective.
Based at Prince of Wales Hospital, this position involves travel to TSS referring sites as required. You will work with the TSS Nurse Educator to ensure a consistent, well-integrated clinical service and promote advancement of nursing practice in stroke and telestroke.
This role also involves evaluating the NSW Telestroke Service and promoting collaboration with academic colleagues to influence future directions of nursing practice.
Where you’ll be working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service (SESLHD) – a Level 6 tertiary referral hospital with extensive inpatient and outpatient services and creative telehealth programs. The role supports SESLHD core values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
Selection criteria
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia; NSW driver’s licence and ability to travel as required
- Minimum seven years full-time equivalent post-qualification experience, with at least five years in the specialty or related field; relevant postgraduate qualifications
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills; experience applying the practice development framework to clinical practice
- Demonstrated ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice through evidence-based research
- Leadership in strategic and clinical service planning; capability to manage organisational and cultural change
- Advanced skills in clinical teaching and competency in contemporary information systems; ability to develop educational programs using technology
- Clinical expertise in complex client-centred consultancy; ability to work independently
- Ability to engage with telestroke technologies and promote innovative clinical technology
