The Project Officer - Apiary Chemical Use will contribute to the regulation of agricultural chemicals in Victoria under the Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act 1992. Reporting to the Biosecurity Manager, Chemicals you will have the responsibility to support the Project Officer Plant Residues (POPR), in the delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of the Target Agricultural Chemical Residue Program (TARP) as it relates to the apiary industry.

You will also develop a three-year Industry Action Plan (IAP) to promote a risk management approach to chemical use practices and residue minimisation in the apiary industry. This will include sourcing and analysing residue data from third parties as a source of intelligence on apiary chemical use practices. In addition, you will be required to provide technical advice and liaison with analytical laboratories to support apiary staff on chemical use by the apiary sector and Biosecurity Officers' Agricultural Chemicals in their investigations.

You will have knowledge of current and expected future chemical use practices in the Victorian apiary industry. An understanding of how agricultural chemicals work and the complexities of residue analysis of these chemicals is also required.

You will establish strong working relationships with internal apiary and chemical staff and external stakeholders, including laboratories, peak industry bodies, and other government agencies. You will also have good project management skills.

The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team and enjoy flexible working arrangements.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

* Relevant knowledge of chemicals and residue risks.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2027. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
