Trainee Water and Sewer Operator - Taree
We're offering Traineeship and Apprenticeship opportunities for 2026. The program provides on-the-job training, mentorship, and a pathway to a qualification in a high-demand field. This role supports delivering high-quality water and sewer services to homes and businesses and contributes to environmental protection through wastewater treatment.
The role & you
You'll be part of a dedicated team delivering water and sewer services across the MidCoast Council region. You may be based at the MidCoast Council Taree Water Services Depot and may be required to work from other Council sites.
What you'll learn
Repair water mains and replace valves
Maintenance of sewer pump stations
Responding to emergency situations
Using IT systems to monitor operations
Recording data and system readings for water and sewer networks
By the end of the Traineeship, you'll have a nationally recognised Certificate III in Water Industry Operations and valuable hands-on experience.
We're looking for someone who
Has a genuine interest in working in Council's water and sewer department
Is motivated to grow their career in this essential industry
Can show dedication and reliability through previous study or work
Holds at least a P1 driver's licence

Pre-employment checks:
A basic skills assessment and medical check (medical assessment may include drug and alcohol test, vision and hearing, and functional/medical components) will be required for successful candidates.

Successful candidates commence employment on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.
Salary:
The salary for this traineeship ranges from approximately $31,288 to $53,196 p.a. in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award. Salary determined by age, qualifications, and experience. Superannuation (12%) is additional. An allowance of $95.34 per week applies (Trainee Water Allowance).
Location:
Primary work location is MidCoast Council Taree Water Services Depot, Muldoon Street. May be based at other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.
Tenure:
Full-time 38 hours per week over 24 months.
