About the role

Automotive Parts Interpreters sell automotive parts and accessories. An apprenticeship in parts interpreting is the pathway that leads to a variety of career opportunities.

This role is suitable for an individual who has an interest in IT, and those that enjoy administrative and logistics work. If you have an interest in vehicle parts and have good communication and sales skills, this is the career for you

Automotive Parts Interpreters sell automotive spares, replacement parts and accessories in repair shops or retail stores. Parts can include air filters, oil filters, spark plugs, whole trim assemblies and small trim pieces.

What will I learn?

As part of your apprenticeship, you will learn how to:

* Talk to customers to find out their exact needs and recommend appropriate parts.
* Identify the make, model and variations of motor vehicles and automotive equipment.
* Check databases to identify and locate parts.
* Order parts from warehouse and external suppliers.
* Calculate tax, discounts and prices.
* Prepare invoices for the sale of stock.
* Process cash and credit transactions.
* Collect, pack and dispatch or deliver ordered parts.
* Participate in stocktaking and update computer data.
* Assist customers in repairing or replacing parts.
* Set up merchandise displays.

What skills do I need?

No prior knowledge or experience is necessary but a keen interest in cars and good communication will help.

An apprenticeship is designed to teach you the skills and knowledge you need with practical training at work, and extra studies at a Registered Training Organisation.

An apprenticeship will get you started in the industry, and open up the doors to a great career.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entrance requirements however you will need to be placed in an apprenticeship to start your training and you should be able to read, write and understand basic mathematical concepts. You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

We are looking a candidate who fits our culture and will work well within our small team of technicians, apprentices, parts interpreters and overarching Parts Department Management within our Cairns based Fleet Service Workshop. We require this person to demonstrate excellent interpersonal management skills as well as practical logistics in working independently whilst following day to day processes within the Parts department as well as logistics of freight, working together with our team of technicians. You will build and maintain a skilled and procedure driven routine. This person brings to the table extensive experience in a similar role. A cool and calm personality committed to rational thinking will excel in this position. General mechanical knowledge is mandatory. The nature of this role does require proficiency in computer-based processes and reporting, as well as strategic decision making

You must have a current drivers licence.
