Details: This is an exciting opportunity for an executive, full-time role in the ACT Audit Office. The Audit Office supports the Auditor-General in carrying out the functions of promoting public accountability in the public administration of the ACT.
As the Assistant Auditor-General, Financial Audits you will provide overall direction and leadership for the conduct of financial audits by the Audit Office. You will support the maintenance of high standards of conduct by the ACT public sector by conducting independent financial audits and limited assurance engagements of statements of performance of ACT Public Sector (ACTPS) agencies, and those entities in receipt of Territory funding or resources. You will also provide advice and briefings to ACT Legislative Assembly committees and ACTPS agencies, respond to representations by ACT Legislative Assembly members and the community, and receive public interest disclosures under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2012.
The Assistant Auditor-General, Financial Audits will report to the Auditor-General and will be a key member of the Audit Office Executive Team. There may be occasions where you are required to become personally involved in sensitive, extraordinary or complex audits including managing significant and high-profile matters involving senior officials or statutory office holders.
The role encompasses legislative, administrative and strategic aspects and plays a vital role in reinforcing, communicating and educating on high standards of financial and performance conduct, public administration, and accountability for the ACTPS and relevant other bodies.
For this role you will be an experienced individual who will bring credibility, authority, respect, integrity, and sound judgement to serious issues impacting on the public administration and performance of the ACTPS. The purpose is to work with key stakeholders to continue enhancements to the ACTPS through evidence, analysis, communication and education and audit findings and recommendations. The successful candidate will have a strong appreciation of the values of public service, have held senior leadership roles, and have experience in review, risk management, interpretation, and proportionate response. Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting and professional memberships are essential. Financial audit experience with sound understanding of accounting and auditing standards is desirable but not essential.
Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $289,335 - $298,258 depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $254,964.
Contract: The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
