Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent.
Classification: Health Qualified Level 4 / Psychologist Level 4 (PN 33369). Note: This role will be filled at either Health Professional Level 4 or Psychologist Level P4 depending on qualifications and experience, in line with the Enterprise Agreement.
Salary: HP4: $125,344 - $139,120 (Plus 12% Super); P4: $133,437 - $140,285 (Plus 12% Super).
Location: Canberra Health Services – Alexander Maconochie Centre, ACT. Section: Forensic Mental Health Services (FMHS).

About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Custodial Mental Health Service within Forensic Mental Health Services (FMHS). FMHS provides mental health care across the lifespan and across a range of settings, including custodial facilities, community liaison, court settings and secure inpatient units. The service operates under the National Principles for Forensic Mental Health Services and emphasizes Recovery-focused, consumer and carer involvement and collaboration with key services.
FMHS comprises three components:
- Custodial Mental Health Services (CMHS) – Adult at the Alexander MacONochie Centre and CMH – Child and Adolescent at Bimberi Youth Justice Centre.
- Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Service (FMHIS) – Dhulwa Mental Health Unit.
- Forensic Community Mental Health Services (FCMHS) – including FoCIS and related services (ACT FTAC, MHCALS).
This position is based at AMC and Bimberi Youth Justice Centre. Clinicians receive specialist training and supervision, with support for continuing professional development.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Custodial Mental Health Service within FMHS, ensuring high-quality, recovery-informed care for adults in custody and youths in secure facilities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, consumers, carers and other services to deliver integrated care.
- Align service delivery with service principles and national standards for forensic mental health.
Qualifications and requirements
- Multi-classified position with appointment possibilities at HPO4, RN4.1 or P4.
- Pre-employment National Police Check required.
- Current registration under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 required prior to commencement.
- Compliance with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy and credentialing requirements for allied health professionals.
