Job Description
Hunter Marine Surveyors PTY LTDWe're seeking a Marine Transport Professional to join our growing team in either a residential or FIFO capacity. This role suits someone who enjoys hands‐on technical work, problem‐solving, and engaging directly with vessel crew, owners, and commercial operators.
Task & responsibilities
* Inspect vessels, cargoes, and marine operations to ensure compliance with maritime legislation, international conventions and operational standards.
* Conduct vessel surveys both onshore and offshore, assessing seaworthiness, structural integrity and operational safety.
* Control and direct the loading of ships by performing draft surveys to determine vessel displacement and cargo quantities in accordance with international maritime standards.
* Carry out marine measurement and assessment tasks, including trimming surveys and stability evaluations.
* Review cargo loading plans and verify compliance with stability criteria under the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code.
* Monitor and advise on vessel stability, loading operations and cargo handling to ensure safe and compliant marine transport practices.
* Identify operational, structural and safety risks and provide professional recommendations to ship operators and clients.
* Prepare detailed technical reports, inspection findings and survey documentation for clients, shipowners, port authorities and regulatory bodies.
* Liaise with clients, shipowners, insurers and maritime authorities to ensure surveys meet statutory and industry requirements.
* Ensure compliance with international maritime conventions such as SOLAS, MARPOL and ISM.
* Conduct Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insurance surveys and provide expert assessments for marine claims and risk evaluations.
Qualification & experience
* Experience as a Chief Officer / Master, Marine Surveyor or relevant Marine Professional of at least 1.5–3 years.
* At least a Bachelor degree in relevant maritime/nautical sciences.
* Strong understanding of bulk vessel operations, systems and regulatory frameworks.
* Excellent written communication and report‐writing skills.
* Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule.
* Strong attention to detail and a methodical, evidence‐based approach.
* Ability to build rapport with clients and represent the company professionally.
* Valid driver's license.
* Australian work rights will be assessed on a case‐by‐case basis.
* Valid MSIC card.
* Experience with commercial vessels.
* Familiarity with digital reporting tools and structured documentation workflows.
