The Development and Regulatory team are staffed with a close-knit team of Building Surveying professionals (Building Officers) responsible for the undertaking of building rules assessment and building rules audit inspections of all classes and types of buildings.
In any given year our Officers may contribute to the further development of up to 90 commercial buildings and between 600-700 residential homes throughout the diverse demography that makes up one of South Australia's best councils.
Due to an internal promotion, there is now a position for a Senior Building Surveyor to work in a collaborative and positive team culture and independently manage a more complex workload in an environment that supports your current and future abilities.
Reporting to the Team Leader, Building and Compliance, this position represents a great career choice for an applicant looking to take the next step, or for a more experienced officer that seeks to work in a more challenging and positive environment.
A day in life in this position includes the following.
Assessing the Building Rules Consent stage of development applications, undertaking any necessary procedural requirements and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Inspecting developments in progress and completed developments to ensure compliance with the Building Rules, approve
Investigating development complaints and compliance issues and negotiate where possible with parties to achieve appropriate compliance outcomes.
Determining appropriate action to achieve compliance with relevant legislation and issuing notices where development has not been undertaken in accordance with the Building Rules and relevant legislation or where there is a threat to safety.
Providing expert specialist advice to internal and external customers on building and development matters.
Responding to requests from elected members and other business units in relation to building, compliance and general development information and advice.
Instructing and briefing Council's solicitors on enforcement matters, and represent Council at the Environment, Resources and Development Court, or other relevant Courts as required.
Assisting the Building Fire Safety Committee with both inspection and administrative tasks where required.
We are looking to receive applications from Building Surveyors that have gained prior experience in building rules assessment and associated matters. It is assumed you will possess a solid understanding of the Building Code of Australia and the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act.
It will be necessary to possess tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying and have Accreditation or to be working/studying toward being an Accredited Professional – Building - Level 1, 2 or 3 under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure (Accredited Professionals) Regulations 2019.
A Driver's licence (car), an ability to climb ladders and work at heights (for site inspection), occasional out of hours attendance and occasional attendance at Council meetings) is required for this position.
