Primary objective
Provide high level strategic support and advice to the Executive Director Southern Region and regional staff on policy, secretariat,
finance, procurement and human resources matters. Undertake research, manage key projects and prepare high level
communications for the Executive Director.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate and prepare high level communications, including Chief Executive and Ministerial briefings, submissions and
correspondence, cabinet submissions and budget estimate briefings.
2. Provide strategic finance, human resource management, secretariat and business administrative support to the Executive
Director, regional managers and staff.
3. Develop and establish best practice policies, procedures and systems to improve operational practices, in compliance with
Government and Departmental objectives and legislation.
4. Research, evaluate and report on emerging issues and policy impacting the Southern Region and undertake key priority
projects.
5. As a member of the regional team, contribute to the leadership and management of regional operations and foster a positive
work environment that encourages high level performance, continuous improvement and innovation.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high-level conceptual, analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
2. Experience with corporate reporting including finance, business, secretariat and human resource systems and processes.
3. High-level oral communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to operate effectively at a senior level with
internal managers and external stakeholders.
4. High level written communication skills and proven ability to prepare high quality reports, correspondence and submissions.
1. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and support a team and influence others to achieve required outcomes and timeframes
2. Proven ability to work under pressure with limited direction, manage competing priorities and to produce high quality outputs
within tight timeframes, in a climate of ongoing change.
7. Well developed knowledge and understanding of government administrative and legislative processes and the ability to work
in a politically sensitive and dynamic environment.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in public administration, business management or other relevant discipline.
