Job Description
The Senior Reporter role is for a versatile, highly motivated and experienced journalist who can combine breaking news, analysis and feature writing capability at the highest level across our digital and print platforms and consistently generate high quality work.
Day to day you will:
* Generate unique content ideas for the daily and weekly news cycle
* Regularly break agenda-setting exclusive stories
* Prepare clear, accurate, balanced, well-written and well-researched reports
* Demonstrate willingness to meet the needs of a modern, 24-hour, digital news outlet
* Demonstrate excellent news judgement and knowledge of current affairs
* Ensure the highest standard of accuracy, ethics and editorial quality
* Develop and manage relationships with contacts
* Meet agreed audience benchmarks and deadlines
* Collaborate with roundspeople across the newsroom
Qualifications
We are seeking an experienced and versatile journalist capable of reporting with authority across a range of topics including, but not limited to, unions, economics, politics, the public service, Melbourne’s major events and influential institutions.
What we would like to see:
* Extensive journalistic background with significant experience in the field
* An excellent portfolio demonstrating short-form, long-form and multimedia storytelling abilities
* Superior writing skills
* First rate news judgement
* Proven ability to identify, articulate and develop quality stories that lead the news agenda
* Strong ideas within the aforementioned topics
* Ability to work collaboratively with journalists across The Age and its national teams, including at The Sydney Morning Herald, plus other journalists within the Nine stable
