Primary objective
As a member of an investigations team, conduct investigative work and reviews within the Department of Corrections into code
of conduct matters, operational incidents or risk incidents impacting the Corrections Department, and provide accurate, evidence-
based reports in accordance with investigations methodology. Contribute to thematic reviews, report findings, and offer
recommendations that enhance the governance and operational efficiency of the Department.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Conduct investigative work by managing inquiries into complaints, misconduct, and operational incidents as directed by the
Manager and Director PSU, while ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, such as the Public Sector Employment and
Management Act (PSEMA).
1. Document investigation findings thoroughly, providing well-supported, evidence-based insights and recommendations that
assist senior management in making informed decisions and improving operational standards.
1. Assist in prioritising and managing inquiries by identifying key investigative needs, conducting fact-finding activities, and
providing support to senior officers in gathering information that informs ongoing or new investigations.
1. Actively contribute to audits and compliance reviews of DOC operations, compiling findings, and offering recommendations
to improve processes, reduce risk, and promote adherence to organisational policies.
1. Collaborate with NT Police, the Ombudsman, the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, and other external bodies, to support
complex, multi-agency investigations, ensuring alignment, professionalism, and effective information sharing.
1. Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance by securely managing all investigative materials, adhering to privacy legislation,
records management protocols, and FOI requirements to protect sensitive information and uphold integrity.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in conducting complex investigations, with expertise in handling inquiries and interviews into procedural and
operational breaches, complaints, and operational incidents while adhering to legislative and procedural standards.
2. Ability to produce clear, detailed briefs of evidence, including recommendations for operational improvements, with a strong
focus on providing insights that support senior-level decision-making and organizational accountability.
3. Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple investigations simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to
meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks effectively under pressure.
4. Highly developed abilities to assess evidence accurately, identify trends or patterns, and offer relevant insights to inform
investigative approaches. Skilled in problem-solving within a structured investigative setting.
5. Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including PSEMA, with the proven ability to interpret and apply these frameworks
effectively in investigative work.
6. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with the utmost discretion, ensuring strict compliance with records
management and privacy protocols, and maintaining high standards of integrity and confidentiality.
Desirable
1. Experience in the use of an electronic records system, Excel, Word and database application computer programs.
2. Relevant investigation qualifications, e.g. Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
