Position Description
The Teacher's Assistant 7-12 supports student learning by working collaboratively with Senior School teachers to provide appropriate care, instruction and resources for students in years 7 to 12 with identified needs.
Assisting with classroom activities, the position holder provides individual or small-group support and helps with learning and wellbeing programs tailored to diverse requirements.
What You Will Do
Support the educational experiences of students with diagnosed disabilities and learning difficulties
Supervise students in and outside the classroom and during recess, lunch, and excursions
Assist students during class activities, either individually or in small groups
Maximise student learning time by keeping them on tasks
Assist Senior School teachers with the monitoring and management of student behaviour
Provide feedback to teachers on student participation and achievement in activities
Support day-to-day classroom operations
Assist with record-keeping, such as student attendance and progress
Help to maintain a positive, safe and respectful learning environment
What You Bring
Passion for and/or experience in supporting young people with diverse and complex needs including physical mobility, learning and language difficulties, Autism and emotional regulation
Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and teamwork skills
Ability to empathise, collaborate and communicate positively with Ascham students and staff
Professionalism, confidentiality and ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work unsupervised
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
A valid Working with Children Clearance (WWCC)
Experience in education, youth work or wellbeing support as well as relevant qualifications e.g. Certificate III/IV in Education Support would be highly regarded.
