Overview
Senior Project Manager – Platform Engineering role at BAE Systems Australia. Location: Osborne, South Australia or Bourke Street, Melbourne. Reporting to the Head of Platform Engineering, the role manages project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and opportunities to enable successful delivery of program outcomes. The role includes managing multiple control accounts that deliver the Platform Stage 1 design for the Hunter Class Frigate program, focusing on ship systems.
The successful candidate will make informed decisions, trade-offs and prioritise between projects to optimise program outcomes, through planning and managing program performance, inter-project dependencies, portfolio resources, and program risks and opportunities. The role collaborates with internal and external senior stakeholders, ensuring governance appropriate to risk and complexity.

Responsibilities
- Develop strategic relationships with industry partners and BAE Systems international entities
- Provide leadership and guidance to the project team aligned to strategic business objectives
- Foster a positive, collaborative culture among key project stakeholders and the project team (customer, industry partners, sub-contractors and suppliers)
- Build and maintain a trusted relationship with the customer as a focal point of contact
- Lead the project team to ensure timely activity, integration and efficient use of time and resources to meet requirements
- Document all project requirements and objectives in a business case or project brief and vigorously pursue them
- Establish key success indicators and recommend trade-offs between scope, quality, time and cost; monitor KSIs and influence enhancements
- Maintain the Project Management Baseline within the Platform Engineering control accounts (planning, reporting, change management)
- Ensure products/services meet the Product Safety Policy and provide customer satisfaction
- Develop a risk management culture, mitigate known risks, and communicate risk position and business impacts to stakeholders
- Provide direction to and motivate the broader project team
- Identify and address training and development needs for the project team
- Complete closure activities and capture lessons learned
- Provide mentoring to developing Project Managers
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Project Management or Engineering (advantageous)
- Previous experience in a senior level role with similar responsibility
- Experience in managing the quality of program outputs to meet strategic objectives
- Experience in conducting program-level meetings and reviews
- Proven influencer and communicator with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership and senior customer representatives
- Current NV1 Defence security clearance
