Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation (RDAC) was established as an Aboriginal Community Controlled organisation in 1992 to improve the social, health and economic outcomes for Aboriginal people. RDAC is a leading provider of primary health care and related social and family support services to Aboriginal people and communities across Gippsland. RDAC's services are provided at the following locations: Sale and Morwell. About the role
Based in Morwell VIC 3840
Part time - hours negotiable
The Koori Maternity Services Midwife will assist the health of Indigenous women, their unborn infants, children and families. Provide antenatal and postnatal care for women of the Latrobe community. Further the education and choice for women in family planning within a community-controlled health service. The Midwife is to develop strategies to maximise efficient and effective delivery of maternity health services at the clinic.
Responsibilities:
* Use and promote effective communication, excellent customer service, and cultural awareness in all activities.
* Provide and promote holistic maternity care, education, early detection and intervention programs.
* Provide education, prescribe and administer contraception in the postpartum period.
* Support women and child health through community development initiatives, liaising with external agencies, health promotion and participation strategies.
* Ensure maximised use of, and compliance with Medicare and ensure billing accurately reflects the full range of services available and provided.
* Complete referrals to admitting hospitals and their Obstetric teams.
* Request pathology and imaging for clients.
* Maintain data, statistics, administrative records and client files as per Ramahyuck policies and procedures.
* Undertake home visits, face to face, telehealth and other forms of appointments.
* Prescribe medications from the Victorian Governments formulary for pregnant women and newborns.
* Transportation to antenatal/ postnatal appointments and support of clients if requested when consulting professional health practitioners.
* Identification and referral of 'high risk' pregnancies for on-going care.
* Undertake general nursing duties when required.
* Postnatal education and in-home care for new mothers, babies, fathers, and significant others.
* Participate and maintain accreditation standards within your team.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor, Masters or Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.
* Proven experience in providing comprehensive healthcare services to individuals and families.
* Strong knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and treatment modalities.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathize and build rapport with patients and their families.
* Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technologies.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently.
* Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
* Willingness to collaborate and contribute to a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
