What you'll be doing
Reporting directly to our Assistant Director of Clinical Services, the Research Nurse / Midwife will play a crucial role in the two-phase implementation-effectiveness multicentred research study (DEFENCE study) aimed at evaluating the effectiveness and implementation of the SAFET bundle intervention to prevent medical device-related pressure injuries in critically ill patients. The Research Nurse / Midwife will work closely with the research team, healthcare providers, and key stakeholders to co-develop site-specific implementation strategies, implement the SAFET bundle intervention and evaluate its impact on clinical outcomes. The purpose of this role is to support data collection, analysis and implementation of a bundle and will provide expert clinical knowledge and clinical care for neonates admitted to Mater Neonatal Critical care unit (NCCU) who require specialised neonatal care. This includes supporting some of the smallest patients, to patients with surgical conditions requiring invasive procedures. This role will contribute to research through role modelling and application of the principles of contemporary evidence-based neonatal care, education, leadership, and portfolio management.

The role is funded as part of the NMRC, but primarily operates within the NCCU interprofessional team, working with neonates and their families within the service. The NMRC hosts nurse and midwifery-led projects in collaboration with WNS and other stakeholders to advance evidence-based practice both nationally and internationally.

Role Specific Duties:

* Co-develop tailored site-specific implementation strategies to support local uptake of the SAFET bundle.
* Conduct surveys and workshops with nursing, medical, and allied health staff to identify barriers and facilitators to implementing the SAFET bundle intervention.

* Participate in the implementation and transition of the SAFET bundle intervention in NCCU.
* Collect de-identified data on participant demographics, clinical characteristics, skin assessments, and adherence to the SAFET bundle.
* Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the SAFET bundle, including adoption, fidelity, acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness.
* Collaborate with the research team to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis on preventing device-related pressure injuries.
* Assist in the preparation of research reports, publications, and presentations based on study findings.
* Apply study protocols and other research related documentation.
