Get AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features.The role’s main activities will be on Yinhawangka Country which is based on the Paraburdoo region.It is a full-time role that requires a FIFO arrangement for approximately 10 days on country per 4-week cycle.Competitive Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.The Land Manager is employed by On Country Academy.The core activity is to provide training and management to a group of 5 – 6 Yinhawangka trainee rangers within the Conservation and Ecosystem Management training package, whilst working on Caring for Country Projects on country.ABOUT THE PROGRAMYinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation and On Country Academy are pleased to be delivering the Yinhawangka Ranger Training Program with the aim to qualify a team of Rangers to be ready to support the Yinhawangka Healthy Country Plan.The Rangers will undertake training in Conservation and Ecosystem Management so as to qualify to be Rangers to operate on Country. It is expected the training will be over a period of 18 months and involved up to 9 trainees.The training will be delivered on Country and incorporated into actual work projects such as weed management, seed collection, feral animal management and protection areas of ecological and cultural significance.The training will be conducted as in 10-day blocks, with 5 days of training with specialised trainers, and then a further 5 days of activities under the direction of the Land Manager.The program is designed to be scheduled in 10-day blocks – which means usually there are 10 days on Country each 4 weeks. Accommodation and meals are provided on Country. There will also be a break from December to March in which the Land Manager will have factored into their work schedule. There will be a requirement to attend the Head Office for agreed times for preparation and out-of-field reporting during the ‘at home’ phase.ABOUT ON COUNTRY ACADEMYOn Country Academy is a Registered Training Organisation within the Terra Rosa Group. It is based in Fremantle, Western Australia, but also has facilities in Busselton, Kalgoorlie, Port Hedland and Bundaberg.The primary role of On Country Academy’s training is in the development and delivery of Ranger programs to assist to prepare trained Rangers for Caring for Country programs in which On Country Academy and Terra Rosa engage with Prescribed Corporate Bodies and Aboriginal Corporations.On Country Academy takes an approach to deliver the training in the field based on practical experiences to ensure the trainees are well prepared for the work as a Ranger.JOB PURPOSEThe Land Manager role is responsible for supporting the training of the Yinhawangka Ranger Training Program. The role reports to the General Manager of On Country Academy and liaises with other internal OCA staff as well as the Yinhawangka support team. The role is to ensure the successful management of the training programs aligned with the cultural and environmental projects that are part of the YAC plan. The role focuses on coordinating on-ground activities, supporting ranger training and development, and fostering partnerships with Yinhawangka and local businesses.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESULT AREASSupervise and coordinate the activities of the Yinhawangka Training Rangers to ensure delivery of the training required during the independent learning times.Collaborate with management, trainers and staff to plan, report, and evaluate the Yinhawangka Ranger Training Program.Assist to plan, supervise and participate in field training activities in remote locations associated with completing the training plan.Work with and mentor the trainee Rangers to develop their personal and project skills, leadership abilities and work ethic.Participate and lead training where appropriate and undertake the supervision of assessment activities.Ensure high level responsibility taken by trainee Rangers for the care, maintenance and safekeeping of equipment and resources used.Undertake appropriate pre-trip and post-trip planning and reporting.Be available for FIFO rostered training.Always ensure compliance with cultural protocols and YAC Policy and Procedures, including the promotion of safe working practices and instruction of Trainee Rangers in OH&S policy and procedures.Work collaboratively with all colleagues, teams, and stakeholders throughout the course of work.Actively and positively contribute to the OCA and YAC team culture.Follow all other reasonable management requests as directed.Other duties related to the role, including assistance with training ranger programs with other Traditional Owners.QUALIFICATIONS, LICENCES AND EXPERIENCEPrior experience in a similar role related to training and/or working on Country and/or team leadership.Experience and/or qualifications in a range of the following: cultural protocols, ecology, agriculture, threatened species conservation, conservation and land management, fire abatement and suppression, or community development.Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal communities, managing small teams, and coordinating on-ground natural and cultural resource management projects.Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges and a commitment to community empowerment, training, and development.Experience working independently in remote areas with minimal supervision, maintaining focus and organisation in challenging work environments.Capacity to undertake training in practical activities related to work projects.Strong communication, negotiation, and community consultation skills.Proficiency with common computer programs and experience managing emails and documents.Applicant to have or be able to obtain:Working with Children’s Check (WCC).National Police Check.The successful applicant will be expected to have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or gain one within 4 months of commencement.Other Information:The position is available to people of all backgrounds.The position requires that the successful candidate will be able to undertake FIFO duties including trips of 10 consecutive days in the Paraburdoo region.Accommodation, meals and transport are provided when on Country in mining camp accommodation.Seniority levelMid-Senior levelEmployment typeOtherJob functionOtherIndustriesEducation
