Offer description

Details Are you an experienced leader in workplace health, safety and wellbeing who thrives in complex, diverse operating environments? Join the City and Environment Directorate (CED) and play a critical role in strengthening a positive safety and wellbeing culture across a large and varied workforce delivering essential services to the ACT community.

CED is seeking a Director, Safety and Wellbeing to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of safety and wellbeing practices across the directorate. Reporting to the Senior Director, Safety and Wellbeing, you will provide expert advice, lead contemporary safety initiatives and support compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, associated regulations and relevant standards.

Located within the People, Safety and Culture Branch of the Corporate Services Division, this role has a strong mix of strategic, operational and people leadership responsibilities. You will lead and support a decentralised, multidisciplinary team, mentor safety professionals, and maintain an active operational presence across both field-based and corporate environments.

You will bring a strong understanding of WHS systems and contemporary practice, with experience implementing and improving safety management systems in large or complex organisations. You will be confident working independently and to deadlines, while also collaborating effectively with senior leaders, managers and frontline staff. Success in this role requires sound judgement, resilience, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate complex and sometimes sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

This is an opportunity to influence safety and wellbeing outcomes, contribute to continuous improvement, and help ensure our people return home safe every day.

If this sounds like the right challenge for you, we would love to hear from you.

For further information about the role, please contact Alice Harvey on 6205 0497 or via email at ali•••••••••@act.gov.au.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Tertiary qualifications and technical expertise in a safety/occupational health and safety discipline or related discipline will be highly regarded.

Driver’s licence [C-Class] is desirable.

Note An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.
