ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia, all remotely operated from our Regional Control Centre. With a nearly 30-year history in Western Australia, we provide safe, clean, and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers, with significant investments in stable, long-term contracts.
The RCC Operator provides daily control and decision-making for the Power Stations. This role offers an opportunity to build and future-proof your skills, moving between open and combined cycle plants with reciprocating engines, steam, and gas turbines. You will operate within an islanded network or support peak demands on the state grid, with preparations for the integration of solar and BESS.
The base location for this residential position is at TransAlta's Parkeston Power Station in Kalgoorlie. The shift pattern is 2 days, 2 nights, and 4 days off. Local candidates seeking career progression are preferred.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
* Manage the system in a cost-effective manner while maintaining personnel safety.
* Create detailed work orders for plant malfunctions to facilitate repairs.
* Record relevant data after abnormal events, including alarm logs, event logs, and trends.
* Maintain high standards of log keeping.
* Troubleshoot plant equipment problems.
* Participate in incident investigations, providing expert opinions.
* Train new staff members in operations.
* Collaborate daily with maintenance staff on plant performance and maintenance schedules.

* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Ability to work safely independently and in a team.
* Intermediate computer skills (email, Word, Excel, databases).
* Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and P&ID drawings.
* Experience in a control room environment (power generation/distribution experience preferred but not essential).
NICE TO HAVES
Qualifications such as High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) in Turbine Operations (TO) and Advanced Boiler (BA) are highly regarded.
