About the role
As a Lawyer, you'll provide high-quality legal services, duty lawyer support, casework and advice, with a primary focus on criminal law and family violence. You'll also advocate for our clients in various courts and tribunals and help improve access to justice for those who need it most.
We have the following roles available, and you are welcome to apply to one or both roles:
* 1x full time ongoing role in Broadmeadows
* 1x full time ongoing role in Ringwood office
* 1x maximum term role up to 2 years in Ringwood office
These roles are based at our Broadmeadows or Ringwood offices on Wurundjeri Country with regular travel to various courts and tribunals and for community outreach.
About the Teams
The Broadmeadows team provides legal services across criminal law, youth crime, family violence, family law, child protection and civil law. A large team of Independent Mental Health Advocates are also based in the region. Legal services are provided across two Magistrates' Courts (Broadmeadows and Seymour), the Specialist Children's Court (Broadmeadows), the Mental Health Tribunal, the AAT, VCAT and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. Broadmeadows is located in the City of Hume which is home to a diverse population. The city has a rich cultural heritage, with many residents from different ethnic backgrounds.
The Ringwood Office is one of VLA's largest metropolitan offices, providing services to Heidelberg and Ringwood Magistrates Courts, the Mental Health Review Tribunal, and various outreach services. The office is home to approximately 65 staff members and enjoys an excellent workplace culture.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
* Ability to represent clients in criminal law and family violence matters in court.
* A current Australian practising certificate that entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
* High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and external stakeholders, handling sensitive and complex issues.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to a supportive team environment and manage multiple priorities efficiently.
