About the Role
The Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate Youth Engagement Officer to join our Families, Wellbeing & Justice Programs team. This frontline, community-based role delivers outreach, group programs, and place-based activities that strengthen mental health, wellbeing, and positive social connection for young people across the New England North West region.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
* Design and deliver outreach activities, youth events, and group programs that promote resilience, wellbeing, and positive identity.
* Lead the development and delivery of evidence-based mental health community education and awareness initiatives.
* Conduct risk assessments for all community programs and ensure compliance with organisational policies.
* Build strong local relationships with young people, families, Elders, and community organisations to ensure culturally safe, responsive service delivery.
* Represent Centacare NENW at community events, meetings, and interagency forums.
* Support youth program staff to maintain participant engagement and improve education and employment outcomes.
* Contribute to a collaborative, values‐driven team environment.

Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience – What we are looking for.
* Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in Youth Work, Mental Health, or a related field.
* Experience supporting young people, particularly those with complex needs or mental health challenges.
* Strong local knowledge and established community connections.
* Demonstrated ability to design and deliver community engagement activities and events.
* Strong communication skills and culturally safe, ethical practice.
* Understanding of the criminal justice system and its impact on young people (desirable).
* Genuine commitment to supporting young people with complex needs
* Strong organisational and collaboration skills
* Professional judgement, confidentiality, and ethical decision‐making
