Primary objective
As part of the school leadership team, provide innovative leadership and management to implement departmental and school-based
policies and programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students. The Senior Teacher will work collaboratively with other
members of the Gapuwiyak School leadership team to build capacity of all staff, to identify and work towards ongoing school
improvements to achieve quality educational outcomes for students with a specific focus on Curriculum Support for Primary and
Homelands students.
Context statement
Gapuwiyak School is located 220km west of Nhulunbuy. The school offers preschool, primary and secondary education for approximately
230 students. A further 23 students are educated in the Homeland Learning Centres of Raymangirr and Donydji. The school focuses on
the priorities of attendance through engagement, student achievement in numeracy, literacy as well as pathways to employment or further
study.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake an appropriate teaching load and lead the development of programs, events and initiatives.
2. In collaboration with the Principal provide leadership and coaching to staff in the development and implementation of quality
curriculum and assessment procedures and quality wellbeing and inclusion programs and procedures.
3. Provide educational leadership and management to promote an efficient, productive and harmonious working environment.
4. Demonstrate leadership in and support for the development, implementation and review of school policies, procedures and strategic
planning through collaboration with all stakeholders to achieve optimum education outcomes.
5. Assist in the preparation and implementation of the curriculum for Primary and Homelands Programs to ensure appropriate delivery.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience working in cross-cultural teams.
2. Sound knowledge and understanding of Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to achieve high quality
educational outcomes for students and using subject specific student data to inform teaching.
3. Successful experience as an accomplished teacher including ability to provide high level coaching and/or mentoring around teaching
and learning.
4. Demonstrated experience in the preparation, delivery and evaluation of professional learning activities in relation to teaching and
learning.
5. An understanding of contemporary educational research and best practise relating to school improvement.
6. High level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with colleagues and students within a multicultural setting to lead whole
school improvement.
7. The ability to work collaboratively with staff to build teams, and work with staff through the implementation of the qualified growth
process.
8. Sound understanding and experience using EAL/D pedagogy.
