Sproutt is a multi-disciplinary infrastructure asset management, engineering and design consultancy servicing a wide range of local government, state government and private sector clients throughout Australia. Our Infrastructure Asset Management team works with clients to provide bespoke solutions for infrastructure data collection, data management and analysis, through to forward works planning and development of asset management plans.
About the Role
The Civil Technical Lead is a motivated and adaptable engineering professional responsible for leading the technical delivery of Sproutt's civil engineering projects. This role provides specialist support across drainage, stormwater management, road design, pavement design, land development, urban design, transport planning and, to a lesser extent, traffic engineering.
The Civil Technical Lead supports the broader Sproutt business—including Traffic Engineering, Strategic Management, and Infrastructure Asset Management—and ensures that all civil engineering outputs are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. While not a dedicated business-development role, the position requires strong interpersonal skills to maintain existing client relationships and build confidence with new clients through consistent technical excellence.
This role requires high attention to detail, disciplined technical processes, strong communication, and a solutions-focused mindset. The Civil Technical Lead also assists the Civil Principal with workflow planning, technical standards, and cross-team coordination.
Key Obligations
Project Delivery
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary inputs across internal teams (Traffic, Asset Management, Landscape).
* Support the Civil Principal in managing project scopes, resourcing, timelines and risk.
* Work collaboratively with subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing and efficient delivery.
Client & Stakeholder Interaction
* Maintain relationships with existing clients with professionalism and clarity.
* Build trust and confidence with new clients through strong technical delivery and communication.
* Represent Sproutt in meetings, workshops, and technical forums when required.
Team Support & Mentoring
* Provide day-to-day support and informal leadership to civil team members.
* Mentor and assist in the development of graduate engineers and junior staff.
* Promote continuous improvement in design standards, workflows, and technical knowledge.
Civil Engineering
Undertake Civil Engineering tasks, to the level of a Senior Engineer, including:
* Perform QA & sign off on design projects.
* Make decisions on design development & specifications.
* Undertake Civil Engineering investigations and reports.
* Utilising relevant Civil and Stormwater software packages.
* Ensure technical work meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance with relevant standards.
Requirements
* Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or related).
* 5+ years' experience in civil infrastructure and/or urban development.
* Experience with Local or State Government viewed favourably.
* Strong background in Civil and Stormwater Engineering, Design, Project Management and Construction.
* Proficiency in relevant civil design and modelling software.
* Ability to manage workflow, prioritise deadlines and meet project commitments.
* High level of written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong understanding of organisational processes, quality systems and engineering governance.
* Excellent reporting, documentation and problem-solving skills.
