An opportunity is available within the in-house design function of a well-established national HVAC contractor delivering technically complex projects across Sydney. The business is known for its strong engineering capability and its ability to take projects from early design through to construction and commissioning.
You'll be joining a collaborative design team that works closely with BIM, project delivery, and construction teams, allowing designs to be developed with a strong focus on buildability and real-world outcomes.
The Role
As an HVAC Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design and coordination of mechanical services across major projects, with involvement from concept development through to detailed design and construction support. The role suits an engineer who enjoys working in a contractor-led environment, where designs are influenced by programme, cost, and constructability, and where close collaboration with BIM and project teams is part of day-to-day work.
Key responsibilities include:
* Mechanical HVAC system design from concept through to detailed design
* Equipment selection and system sizing (chillers, AHUs, FCUs, hydronic systems, etc.)
* Producing and reviewing technical documentation, calculations, and specifications
* Coordinating designs with BIM teams and other building services disciplines
* Providing technical support during construction and commissioning phases
* Liaising with project managers, site teams, and external consultants
What We're Looking For
* 5+ years' experience in HVAC design within a contractor or building services consultancy
* Strong understanding of HVAC systems and their application on large-scale projects
* Experience working on complex builds such as data centres, healthcare, or major commercial developments
* Ability to develop practical, buildable designs in a fast-paced environment
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
