We are seeking a Tenancy Advice Worker to join our QSTARS Southern Qld team. In this role, you will provide tenancy advice, information, and referrals to tenants in need. You’ll support tenants to understand their rights and responsibilities, assist them in resolving tenancy disputes, and connect them to other relevant services when needed.
We’re looking for someone who is empathetic, respectful, and client-focused, with a strong commitment to social justice and tenant rights. You’ll be resilient and calm under pressure, while remaining proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn in a dynamic team environment
Your Role as a Tenancy Advice Worker
Our purpose is to unequivocally advocate for and empower tenants to protect and improve their rights through access to information, advise and representation by:
* Provide accurate and timely tenancy advice and referrals to tenants via phone, email, or in person.
* Assist clients to understand their rights and responsibilities under tenancy law.
* Advocate for tenants in disputes with landlords or real estate agents
* Maintain accurate notes and client records in accordance with confidentiality and data protection standards.
* Collaborate with legal professionals to ensure the best outcomes for clients
* Prepare and present cases for tribunal hearings
* Contribute to community education, outreach, and awareness activities.
What makes a difference for us?
Essential:
* Experience providing advice, support, or advocacy in a community or housing context.
* Understanding of tenancy law and rental rights (or ability and willingness to learn).
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically.
* Proven ability to assess client needs and make appropriate referrals (if required).
* Experience working with diverse clients, including people facing disadvantage or crisis.
* Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Proficient in Microsoft suites and learning CRM platform
Desirable:
* Qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Law, or a related field.
* Knowledge of local housing networks, services and Residential tenancies legislation
* Experience within a community legal centre, housing assistance organisation or tenancy.
