Working arrangements: The wider team is based in Canberra but interstate candidates will be considered. Hybrid working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance at an AEC office within your state and remote working) will be considered against operational requirements.
Length of contract: 12 months
Contract extensions: Up to 3 extension options not to exceed a total 18 months
Security clearance: Must have a current Baseline clearance and will need to obtain a Negative Vetting Level 1 clearance upon commencement
Rates: $100 - $120 per hour (inc. super)
The Funding and Disclosure Reform Program was established to enable the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to implement and administer legislative amendments to the Commonwealth Funding and Disclosure Scheme (the Scheme) as set out in Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (Electoral Act) to increase transparency and accountability in Australia's electoral system.
The Program is made up of three branches – the Program Management Office Branch, the Regulatory Enablement Branch, and the Technology Delivery Branch – that will work together to uplift the AEC's regulatory capability by designing, building and implementing new processes, resourcing, tools, systems and technology to successfully administer the Scheme.
The Senior Data Analyst works within a multidisciplinary data team to collect, analyse, and interpret data that informs product design, development, and delivery. This role supports the team by providing actionable insights, ensuring data quality, and enabling evidence-based decision-making throughout the software development lifecycle.
The key position responsibilities for the Data Analyst at AEC are:
* Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross functional teams to define requirements for data products, analytics, and reporting dashboards.
* Gather, clean, and analyse data from various systems to generate actionable insights.
* Develop and maintain automated reports and dashboards to monitor key metrics.
* Design, plan, and manage data migrations, including risk assessment, mapping, testing, and documentation to ensure successful transfer of data between systems.
* Provide subject matter expertise, helping to design and build new systems to perform analytics and detection of non-compliance in a regulatory context.
* Support workflow automation and troubleshoot data-related integration issues.
* Provide strategic recommendations and support process improvements based on data analysis.
* Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Communications, or a similar field.
Essential criteria
1. Proven experience as a data analyst, with strong technical skills in designing data models, developing databases, and using data mining and segmentation techniques. Able to write data queries, create reports, and clearly present findings.
2. Strong analytical skills to collect, organise, analyse, and accurately interpret large datasets, identifying trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
3. Expertise in developing dashboards and data visualisations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools.
4. Ability to work in a team environment delivering a high level of customer service, with the ability to build strong working relationships and trust with clients, stakeholders and senior management
5. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable criteria
1. Qualifications in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics
2. Experience using reporting and statistical software, databases, and programming (SQL, Python, R, or ETL frameworks) for extracting, manipulating, automating, and analysing large datasets.
3. Knowledge or experience working with Microsoft DevOps is highly desirable.
4. Experience using any of the following software (Purview, Azure Data Factory, Profisee, ER Studio, Erwin)
