Proud Poppy is a fast-growing, multi-channel retailer with a thriving online store and strong brick-and-mortar presence. We are building a best-in-class finance engine to match our growth. We need a builder who\'s happy to roll up their sleeves and shape the team and systems as we grow.
The role
With dual reporting lines to the CFO & Founder, you will lead the day-to-day finance function: month-end, cash, compliance, controls and commercial insight. You will manage a Finance Officer, review and oversee payroll.
What you\'ll do
* Close and reporting : Run an accurate, on-time month-end (journals, accruals, prepayments, stock/COGS). Deliver weekly trade snapshots, monthly P&L/BS/CF and management reporting packs.
* Cash and banking : Maintain an accurate rolling 13-week cashflow. Liaise with banks and merchants. Prepare covenant and facility reporting, support funding applications, manage FX and merchant costs.
* Inventory and margin : Drive landed-cost accuracy and SKU-level margin tracking. Monitor discounts, returns, freight, payment fees and shrinkage. Support OTB, ageing, weeks-cover and stocktake cadence.
* Commercial partnering : Work with eCommerce, Retail, Marketing and Operations on pricing, promo ROI, channel profitability and CPA/ROAS versus contribution margin.
* Payroll and people : Manage and mentor the Finance Officer. Review and approve weekly payruns, ensuring accurate leave and entitlements.
* AP : Manage supplier payments, optimise terms, and monitor outflows to strengthen cash conversion.
* Compliance and risk : BAS/IAS, FBT, ATO compliance and queries, external accountants, insurance renewals, policy and control improvements.
* Forecasting and planning : Maintain a practical three-way forecast, budget versus actuals and scenario models for pricing, promos, capex and headcount.
* Systems and automation : Lift data quality and speed across Shopify, Xero and the inventory system. Automate feeds and dashboards.

* A coached and supported Finance Officer with clear standards and priorities.
What you\'ll bring
* 5–8+ years in accounting or finance with strong month-end ownership and business partnering. Experience in product-based businesses; eCommerce or retail is highly regarded.
* Advanced Xero and Google Sheets. Comfortable with Shopify data and inventory platform.
* Strong grasp of stock and margin mechanics (discounts, returns, shipping, duties, payment fees).
* Clear, concise communicator who can move from transactional detail to board-level narrative.
* CA or CPA qualified Australian work rights required.
