Apply now for a rotational JMO Supervised Practice position at Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) for the 2026 clinical year. The successful applicants will enter the workforce at an Intern level, which makes this position suitable for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) eligible for provisional or limited registration at entry level.
The JMO Supervised Practice year will give the applicants experience to provide quality medical care to patients in a complex clinical environment, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This includes the assessment and management of patients across several clinical departments under the supervision of senior practitioners whilst developing broad skills in clinical decision making and practice.
The Richmond Network can provide rotations in various specialties including (but not limited to); Emergency Medicine, General and Orthopaedic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Haem/Onc, Mental Health and relief.
As a teaching hospital, LBH supports its Junior Medical Officers with weekly protected teaching for prevocational trainees and a JMO Education schedule including clinical case presentations, Grand Rounds Whole Hospital, and department specific meetings and education sessions. We work closely with the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH) who also facilitates teaching and simulation sessions for medical staff.

Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The hospital is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU and Coronary Care Unit, as well as Surgery (general, orthopaedic and speciality surgery), Paediatrics, Mental Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney and Bond University. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers.

What you'll be doing
The purpose of the position is to provide effective medical services to patients, while developing expertise and skills in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation.
The medical officer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of senior medical officers. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of
- patients seen in or admitted to their Unit within the Public health organisation.
- The day-to-day assessment and management of the patients in their Unit, communicating
- with them and their family the nature of their condition and its treatment.
- Communicate and co-ordinate care with the team, arranging consultation with other staff
- when appropriate
Ensuring all decisions concerning the patients are made in consultation with their immediate supervisor.
The Medical Officer will provide care to all patients according to Good Medical Practice: A Code of Conduct for Doctors in Australia and demonstrate ethical behaviours and professional values including integrity; compassion; empathy; and respect for all patients, society and the profession.
The Supervised Practice position is suitable for applicants eligible for provisional or limited registration seeking entry level experience, including international medical graduates. The purpose of this position is to provide international medical graduates with a supervised practice position to meet the requirements of gaining general registration with AHPRA.
1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
2. Candidate must not hold an intern position
3. Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment.
4. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of all members of the team.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
6. Evidence of continuing career development; and commitment to self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
7. Demonstrates computer literacy skills
8. Documented preparedness and ability to participate in afterhours rosters, on call rosters and move between services and geographic locations as required by the employer or training network.
