PhD Scholarship in Advanced Materials Research

La Trobe University invites applications for a prestigious PhD scholarship to undertake research connecting spatial and spectral information to understand complex materials systems at the molecular level with machine learning.

* This cutting-edge research project aims to develop a pathway for future autonomous instrument control and self-directed experimentation, recognizing the challenge presented by the integration of multiple complex systems.
* The PhD Student will analyse mass spectral imaging data streams in real time using machine learning workflows, contributing to the advancement of AI-driven microscopy and spectroscopy.

Key Responsibilities:

* Undertake a study analysing mass spectral imaging data streams in real time using machine learning workflows.
* Develop a pathway for future autonomous instrument control and self-directed experimentation.
* Contribute to the advancement of AI-driven microscopy and spectroscopy.

Skills and Qualifications:

* Outstanding grounding in one or more relevant disciplines including physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, machine learning/data science, coding.
* Completed a Masters by Research or other significant body of research, such as an honours research thesis or lead authorship of a peer-reviewed publication, assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

* A stipend scholarship for three and a half years, with a value of $40,000 per annum (pro-rata), to support your living costs.

Eligibility Criteria:

* Be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or New Zealand special category visa holders.
* Agree to be enrolled full-time and undertaking their research at the La Trobe University Melbourne (Bundoora) campus.

Selection Process:

* Applicants will be selected based on their academic record, research experience, and potential to contribute to the research project.
* Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview and may be asked to participate in further evaluation activities.

Working Conditions:

* The successful applicant will be required to have a working with children check prior to commencing the position.
