Integrated Mental Health and Addiction Research PhD Scholarship

This opportunity offers a 3-year fixed-term appointment for a PhD research project examining the integration of care for co-occurring mental illness and addiction within Victorian mental health services.

The research will focus on several key areas, including:

* Quality and Safety Factors: Investigating the impact of substance use on mental health outcomes, such as increased suicide risk, frequent hospital readmissions, and poorer recovery trajectories.
* Pathways of Care and Service Navigation: Exploring the current care pathways and service navigation for individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health and addiction issues.
* System-Level Factors: Examining system-level factors that impact treatment accessibility and effectiveness for individuals with co-occurring mental health and addiction conditions.
* Implementation Strategies: Developing implementation strategies to improve integrated care delivery within Victorian mental health services.

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary cohort of researchers and students based at The Hamilton Centre, Turning Point. They will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced clinicians and researchers in the field of mental health and addiction.

The project has a strong implementation focus, aiming to directly inform and advance approaches to integrated care within Victoria and nationally.

Eligibility Requirements

* Candidates must meet Monash University's minimum requirements for admission to a PhD.
* A relevant qualification and/or experience in mental health, public health, or related disciplines is required.
* Clinical or service delivery experience in mental health and/or addiction is desirable.
* Lived experience of mental illness and/or substance use, as a consumer or carer, is also desirable.

* Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Commitment to improving mental health service delivery.

Benefits

* A tax-free stipend, at the current value of $36,064 per annum (2025 full-time rate).
