Joining Australia's leading multi-modal transport and logistics company and having the opportunity to work and live in a desirable coastal regional location represents a unique full-time permanent employment opportunity. The company provides rail and road transport Australia wide, for a wide range of dry, refrigerated and bulk freight, as well as specialist services for the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. For the past 20 years the company has been delivering transport services for the NSW Sugar Industry both in relation to the haulage of sugar cane during the crushing season and for the transport of finished sugar products to customers all year round.
About the role Reporting to a Head Mechanic you will be a member of a small maintenance team who are engaged in both field and workshop-based activities. The team's focus is to service, repair and maintain a heavy vehicle fleet. The fleet consists of over thirty predominately new prime movers as well as specialised trailers used to haul sugar cane and a small number of tautliner trailers used for the transport of finished products. For around six months of the year during the crushing season the role has some call out responsibilities while for the balance of the year a nine-day fortnight operates.
Key Responsibilities Complete a range of servicing, repair and maintenance tasks associated with a heavy vehicle fleet Troubleshoot and problem solve issues in the field including carrying out minor running repairs Follow and adhere to the company's workplace safety procedures Be available for weekend standby and call out duties during the crushing season Participate in training and further development activities Key Skills & Experience Heavy Vehicle/Diesel Mechanic trade qualifications Proven skills and experience associated with the servicing, repair and maintenance of a heavy vehicle fleet including in relation to hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot heavy vehicle running issues in the field Effective communication and liaison skills Good time management skills including the ability to prioritize work Knowledge and understanding of On Board Mass systems, Workplace Health & Safety processes and Chain of Responsibility requirements A current HC Driver's Licence and Forklift licence would be desirable. A current Class C Driver's licence is essential. Citizenship/Visa Status - To be appointed to this position you must be an Australian Citizen, have a permanent resident status or hold a current visa permitting you to work permanently in Australia.
