Job Description
Reporting to the Underground Mine Manager, the Undermanager is responsible for the coordination of shift activities to ensure safe working conditions for all personnel at Moranbah North Mine.
Coordinate and oversee all underground shift activities to ensure safe, efficient and compliant the daily and weekly mine plan, ensuring production and maintenance targets are achieved safely.Monitor underground conditions and make timely operational decisions to manage risks and maintain statutory compliance.Uphold and enforce all requirements under the Coal Mining Safety & Health Act, Regulation and SHMS.Lead, guide and mentor Deputies and Supervisors to build capability, strengthen leadership and support high‑performance teams.Foster a culture of Zero Harm through proactive hazard identification, incident prevention and strong safety leadership.Conduct statutory inspections and ensure accurate, timely reporting of hazards, deviations and operational issues.Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering and Technical teams to resolve issues and optimise performance.Identify improvement opportunities in production, safety, systems, and processes, and drive their emergency response readiness and contribute to incident investigations and corrective actions.Communicate clearly with all underground personnel to provide direction, expectations, feedback and shift all personnel comply with procedures, standards, and statutory requirements at all times.
Qualifications
To be considered for this statutory Undermanager position at an underground coal mine in Queensland, you must meet the following mandatory requirements:
Second Class Mine Manager – Underground Coal Certificate of Competency, or studying to achieve it, are encouraged to apply.Current Practising Certificate under the Board of Examiners’ Practising Certificate Scheme RII50920 Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management, or equivalent recognised qualification used to meet Undermanager statutory exam prerequisites Mine Gases & Gas Testing competency Current First Aid – HLTAID011 and CPR – HLTAID009 Certified underground coal mining experience
Highly Regarded
Statutory experience performing Undermanager duties in Queensland or interstateStrong knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act & Regulation (QLD)Demonstrated ability to lead teams and support safe, statutory‑compliant operations
