We are run by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people and work to provide culturally appropriate dialysis services in remote communities, helping people to get home to country and family.

Position Summary

The Senior Engineer is responsible for supporting, mentoring and supervising the biomedical engineers at Purple House. The team schedules and performs routine repairs and maintenance activities of dialysis machines, other medical equipment and water systems. They inspect, install, and perform inventory assessments and preventative maintenance of medical equipment and assist and support the clinical team in the use of equipment. There are exciting opportunities to design and install new dialysis units across remote Australia over the next few years, so you will have a critical part to play in helping people to return to country and family

As our Senior Engineer, there is scope within this role to be innovative and to take the lead on community‑controlled remote dialysis provision in Australia.


Standard Requirements

* Willingness to travel to remote communities sometimes at short notice.
* Demonstrate safe work practices and promote a safe work environment.


Functions

* Support and supervise the team who:
o Performs timely routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities to dialysis equipment and water treatment systems.
o Performs preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices and systems.
o Provides technical assistance and instructions to clinical team for operation and maintenance.
o Implements and supports clinical education for general medical device usage and maintenance.
o Attends and successfully completes all technical training programs.
o Maintains accurate documentation and records of equipment assets, inspections, repairs, incidents, and service schedules. Investigates and recommends improvements to enhance the delivery of dialysis treatment.
o Provides expert advice and guidance.
o Develops and implements protocols for medical equipment maintenance and safety compliance.
o Mentors and supports the development of biomedical staff through regular supervision and on‑the‑job training.
o Leads and participates in innovative biomedical projects, including supervision of university students and secondees, with a focus on solutions for remote communities. Collaborates with stakeholders.
o Has technical ability to comment and work in collaboration with other engineers and contractors for new site design.
o Other duties as required.

* Tertiary qualification in Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Dialysis machine experience is essential for this role.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in biomedical or clinical engineering, preferably including dialysis or water treatment systems.
* Experience supervising or mentoring technical staff.
* Strong understanding of safety regulations and medical device compliance standards.
* High‑level problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in remote settings.
* Demonstrated cultural competency or willingness to engage in cultural learning.
