Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Principal Power Systems Engineer to be based in Adelaide in a permanent role for our client who are specialists in this area. The successful candidate will take a leading role in advanced power system studies and modelling, driving technical direction across complex projects and providing senior-level guidance to the broader engineering team.
Responsibilities
* Lead and conduct advanced power system studies including load flow, contingency analysis, voltage stability, and system optimisation.
* Develop, validate, and maintain power system models using PowerFactory, PSCAD, and PSSE, with a particular focus on data centre modelling in collaboration with AEMO.
* Deliver offshore wind grid connection studies, ensuring compliance with Australian grid codes and AEMO requirements.
* Manage technical aspects of bringing new OEMs into the NEM, coordinating with AEMO to ensure successful integration.
* Collaborate with clients, regulators, OEMs, and internal teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and grid requirements.
* Prepare and present detailed technical reports and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
* Support project managers in proposals, bid preparation, and technical documentation.
* Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, building the team's technical capability.
Required Experience
* Extensive experience in power systems engineering.
* Proven expertise in PSSE, PSCAD, and PowerFactory for system modelling and studies.
* Strong background in steady state, transient, and dynamic analysis of power systems.
* Demonstrated experience with AEMO processes, grid compliance, and NEM connection requirements.
* Hands-on involvement in offshore wind, renewable integration, and data centre grid connection projects.
* Experience managing OEM integration into the NEM.
* Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, grid codes, and Australian industry standards.
* Track record of providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers.
* Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field (Master's degree or higher strongly advantageous).
