Senior Nuclear Engineer – UK Deployments
ASC Pty Ltd is recruiting a Senior Nuclear Engineer to live, work, and learn about building nuclear‑powered submarines in Barrow, United Kingdom. At the completion of the deployment you will return to South Australia (SA) to carry out the build activities at the Osborne Shipyard.
Placements are available starting September 2026 and will be 24 months in duration.
Responsibilities
* Support the design and development of SSN‑A nuclear mechanical systems alongside the UK PNED Team.
* Capture and document UK nuclear engineering practices, tools, and lessons learned for future application in Australia.
* Assist in the development of nuclear design documentation, models, and specifications.
* Support the development of training and onboarding materials for future Australian nuclear engineers.
* Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, and system integration planning.
Eligibility Criteria
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Nuclear or related Engineering discipline.
* Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 defence clearance and meet ITAR requirements.
* Experience in nuclear system design, analysis or integration.
* Exposure to safety case development and regulatory compliance.
Once deployed, you will be immersed into the processes and procedures required to construct the SSN‑AUKUS submarines in Australia. You will receive a tailored development plan, gaining exposure to world‑class submarine programmes, and will undertake specific rotations while in Barrow to further enhance your capabilities in submarine design and build.
