About the Project
Join the Cannington team, part of South32's world‑class underground operation located 200 km from Cloncurry in North‑West Queensland.
Redpath has partnered with Cannington for more than 20 years, employing over 120 personnel on site. With a near‑new CAT haulage fleet moving over 3 million tonnes annually and a Redpath‑operated crushing plant processing up to 10,000 tonnes per day, this is a high-performing, secure project with long-term career potential.
We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand Diesel Fitter to join our maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will work in a tight‑knit crew of skilled Heavy Diesel Fitters, supporting the safe and reliable operation of our underground fleet.
The Role
As the Leading Hand Diesel Fitter, you will lead, motivate and support the maintenance crew to achieve planned outcomes safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Allocate resources and manage scheduled and planned maintenance activities
Ensure statutory compliance, timely breakdown repairs, and high-quality maintenance workmanship
Support fitters with mechanical and hydraulic diagnostics and repairs
Complete daily documentation and maintenance reporting
Participate in ICAM investigations when required
Uphold all Redpath and site safety policies, procedures, and standards
Roster & Travel
7/7 roster - rotating days & nights
FIFO available from Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns
What You Bring
Heavy Diesel/Heavy Vehicle trade qualification
Valid Australian Driver's Licence & ability to obtain a National Police Check
Strong team focus and ability to mentor others

Previous underground experience is ideal, but skilled heavy vehicle mechanics looking to transition underground are encouraged to apply
