Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper aims to close the digital divide by delivering broadband to various customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and organizations operating in areas without reliable connectivity.
As a System Development Engineer, you will build tools and processes for monitoring, operating, and scaling ground infrastructure for millions of users worldwide. You will use and enhance the tools developed by you and your team, focusing on metrics, scalability, and continuous improvement. Your role involves automating repetitive processes to prevent outages and ensure high availability of ground infrastructure.
Key job responsibilities
1. Continuously seek operational excellence by automating manual processes.
2. Design systems to be robust, scalable, maintainable, and adaptable as the service evolves.
3. Build and maintain critical infrastructure, tools, and procedures to monitor ground infrastructure health.
4. Integrate with existing systems like trouble ticketing, dashboards, and metrics tools.
5. Measure and improve performance and availability of Kuiper Ground Infrastructure.
6. Provide operational support and incident response, participating in an on-call rotation.
A day in the life
Mentoring, designing, coding, and striving for operational excellence. Collaborate with partners and leadership to influence system design. Your daily tasks may include automation scripting, operational initiatives, design meetings, coordination with engineering teams and partners, and participating in an on-call rotation.
About the team
The team includes leaders, System Development Engineers, and Network Development Engineers across North America, Europe, and Australia. The mission is to ensure Kuiper Ground Infrastructure is always available to serve customers.
This position may require access to export-controlled information, technology, or hardware, subject to U.S. export laws. Employment is contingent upon obtaining necessary export licenses or approvals.
Minimum qualifications
* Experience automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
* Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build processes.
* Experience with Linux/Unix systems.
* Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment.
* Experience with AI/LLM tools such as Bedrock.
* Experience with satellite communications and earth stations.
