The Role
The APS 5 Work Health and Safety Officer role is critical to assisting Security and Estate Group (SEG) to meet its work health and safety (WHS) obligations.
* You will provide advice on the application of work health and safety legislation, Codes of Practice, Defence and SEG safety policies and procedures.
* You will engage with base management teams, product directorates and contractors to influence active and appropriate management of WHS risks and incidents.
* You will undertake research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessments and investigations to improve health and safety outcomes across SEG.
* You will be responsible for contributing to Base WHS Committees and Base WHS management planning and be required to provide input into broader SEG policy and papers as requested.
About our Team
The Directorate of Work Health and Safety supports a large and diverse group of stakeholders including various contractors, across all Defence sites to influence positive safety outcomes. We are a small effective team with a passion for safety.
The activities undertaken by the team are many and varied and include:
* Engaging with SEG stakeholders on local and national safety topics and issues.
* Working with SEG's contractors to ensure effective management of WHS.
* Providing analysis and reporting to the Senior Leadership Group on WHS responsibilities, performance and trends.
* Managing SEG's interactions with the Commonwealth WHS Regulator (Comcare).
* Working with other Defence Groups and Services to ensure a coordinated approach to safety across Defence.
* Representing SEG in Defence WHS and in the development of Defence WHS policies.
* Leading and coordinating a national network of WHS subject matter experts.

* The ability to actively seek out learning and development opportunities to enhance their professional skills, subject matter expertise and knowledge.
Eligibility
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Baseline Vetting" level.
